ACTIVE CHILDREN IN CLASS
It seems one of the greatest concerns parents have is that their very active children will not "sit still and focus" during class.  Sitting still isn't always age-appropriate behavior for young children!  Read more!

OLDER PRESCHOOLERS IN MUSIC TOGETHER
Because musical development is accumulated over time through a spiral of exposure and and experimentation, it is important that children continue music classes, especially as opposed to starting formal music lessons.  Beware of removing your child from music class due to a sudden change in his attitude--around age 3 or 4, the formally outgoing child may suddenly seem withdrawn and even say he no longer wants to attend class.  This is a normal stage in development in which the child has suddenly noticed his ability does not match that of the oldest children or the adults in class.  Don't take him out of classes!  Release your expectations of your child to be the same sunny, participatory little person she was before, and give her space to go back to the observing mode for a while.  This will give her the chance to learn new skill sets, keep her inspired to experiment at home, where she can refine her techniques and emerge a musical leader before Kindergarten!

ASHEVILLE AREA MUSIC TOGETHER
